THE 20th anniversary of the Danger 1000 Ocean Swim took place at Point Danger on Saturday.<\/p>\n
Despite expected high temperatures, the event ran as planned, with slight alterations to the course after the More Dangerous 2.5 Ocean Swim.<\/p>\n
Brad Papworth from Jan Juc Surf Lifesaving Club said it was a terrific day, with participation up over 20 per cent from last year\u2019s event.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe put a lot of contingencies in place to ensure we could still run the event safely. The wind picked up after the 2.5km course and we made necessary changes to allow for a continued successful event.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn conjunction with the Bells Bash Cliff Run, the Jan Juc Surf Lifesaving Club is hoping to raise between $30,000 and $40,000; currently we\u2019re still counting the amount raised.\u201d<\/p>\n
Californians from the surf lifesaving team out here to compete in the Wieland Shield also participated across the Danger 500 Ocean Swim, Danger 1000 Ocean Swim and More Dangerous 2.5 Ocean Swim, taking out several podium places.<\/p>\n
