THE Anglesea Surf Life Saving Club junior competition squad, the Dolphins, have been given an extra boost with a visit from the Californian Lifeguard team at their latest training session.<\/p>\n
The Californians are currently visiting for the 50th anniversary of the Wieland Shield, a competition against the Victorian lifeguard team.<\/p>\n
Some Anglesea members even had parents who had previously been a part of a team competing in the Wieland Shield.<\/p>\n
The Anglesea Dolphins learnt about Californian lifeguard Coral\u2019s journey, from being a participant in the junior lifeguard program to now running the program for 4,000 junior lifeguards.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe goal of the Dolphins is to create a fun and competitive environment that will foster lifelong friendships in surf sports,\u201d Anglesea Big Nipper Fiona Fitzgerald said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis aligns well with the Californian junior lifeguard program, providing pathways for juniors to transition into employment as professional lifeguards whilst developing camaraderie and lasting friendships.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Wieland Shield will be held at Torquay at 11am this Friday and at Lorne from 8am this Saturday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
