{"id":61134,"date":"2021-11-22T04:00:29","date_gmt":"2021-11-21T17:00:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=61134"},"modified":"2021-11-17T14:09:55","modified_gmt":"2021-11-17T03:09:55","slug":"point-grey-co-design-group","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/point-grey-co-design-group\/","title":{"rendered":"Community design group formed for Point Grey"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority (GORCAPA) has announced the formation of a Community Co-design Group (CCDG) for the Point Grey redevelopment in Lorne<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, the authority also awarded the Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) contract for design and construction services for the project to Kane Constructions Pty Ltd.<\/p>\n<p>During the ECI phase, the CCDG will help inform and refine the overall Point Grey redevelopment design, in order to activate the precinct.<\/p>\n<p>The CCDG will work within several parameters, including budget, time, site limitations, planning and statutory consents, and grant funding requirements.<br \/>\nGORCAPA and CCDG anticipate a design outcome will be available for community input in early 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The redevelopment will include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A new Lorne Aquatic and Angling Club building<\/li>\n<li>A new commercial restaurant building, including options for coffee, takeaway and al fresco seating<\/li>\n<li>A covered meeting space where the community can enjoy creative and cultural activities<\/li>\n<li>A scenic lookout across the Lorne Pier<\/li>\n<li>Increased public space which will include Indigenous landscaping and open spaces<\/li>\n<li>Recognition of cultural heritage through public art and interpretive information, and<\/li>\n<li>Upgraded walking paths along the foreshore connecting the site with Lorne township.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cThe awarding of the ECI contractor and the creation of the Community Co-design Group are positive steps forward in the project\u2019s development and will bring community aspirations into the redesign of the Fishing Coop building,\u201d GORCAPA chief executive officer Jodie Sizer said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCommunity engagement has been an integral part of the Point Grey \u2013 Lorne Redevelopment over several years, and the authority is committed to actively demonstrating and continuing this relationship with the Lorne community so that we can achieve the best possible outcome for everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Point Grey redevelopment is a priority project of G21, Surf Coast Shire and Great Ocean Road Regional Tourism.<\/p>\n<p>Construction is expected to cost about $10 million and is funded through the Geelong City Deal, with $8 million provided by the federal government,<br \/>\n$2 million by GORCAPA, and $450,000 by the Lorne Aquatic and Angling Club, with the authority also funding an additional $380,000 outside of the City Deal for early planning activities for the project.<\/p>\n<p>GORCAPA is now calling for interested community members to submit an Expression of Interest to be involved in the CCDG process.<\/p>\n<p>Applications close on Thursday, November 25.
