REMEMBRANCE Day brought an unusually large crowd to the Point Danger memorial in Torquay this year.<\/p>\n
More than 100 members of the community took the opportunity on November 11 to gather on a day of memorial for the first time in the better part of two years.<\/p>\n
The Torquay RSL conducted the service, which featured a reading from retired RSL chaplain Major Peter Ellis.<\/p>\n
The service was also the debut of the improved granite memorial, which has recently undergone about $5,000 of careful restoration work by Geelong stonemasons Bartlett Brothers<\/p>\n
Torquay RSL secretary Daryll Topp said the crests on the memorial had been placed in the right order, with navy preceding army and then air force.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe had some of the panels replaced, and all the gold lettering has been redone on both sides.<\/p>\n
\u201cBartlett Brothers were the ones who did the memorial in the first place, and they managed to find some more black granite slabs as well, which we were very appreciative of.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said Torquay RSL hoped in 2022 to restore and move a small memorial plaque at the gun emplacement at Point Addis.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
