{"id":61760,"date":"2021-12-02T04:45:32","date_gmt":"2021-12-01T17:45:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=61760"},"modified":"2021-12-02T10:09:48","modified_gmt":"2021-12-01T23:09:48","slug":"landmark-deal-announced-between-geelong-soccer-clubs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/sport\/landmark-deal-announced-between-geelong-soccer-clubs\/","title":{"rendered":"Landmark deal announced between Geelong soccer clubs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>GEELONG Galaxy will have a new home pitch leading into the 2022 season and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>The Galaxy will call Hume Reserve, the home field of fellow Geelong-based side Corio Soccer Club, its own as part of a three-year understanding between the two clubs.<\/p>\n<p>Hume Reserve is currently in the midst of a $3.2 million upgrade with new club rooms, new change rooms, a gymnasium and a physio room to be available in 2022 once the renovation is complete.<\/p>\n<p>The partnership between the two clubs serves many benefits for both parties according to Galaxy president Branko Krstevski, particularly providing a better pathway for female footballers to develop their skills to an elite level at both organisations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a great opportunity for us as a club to partner with Corio SC,\u201d Krstevski said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a longer-term agreement with it being a minimum of three years so that\u2019s great in the sense that we have more security for the club.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt will benefit Geelong\u2019s female players given they will have access to these top-tier facilities so it will benefit both clubs in that sense and more.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In addition to its men\u2019s squads, Corio SC will be able provide an improved pathway for its own U7s, U9s and U11s girls by joining Galaxy\u2019s well-regarded U13, U15 and U17s junior NPWL program.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 540px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/12\/CorioSC_74968.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"540\" height=\"432\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Corio Soccer Club will look to strengthen its junior female program alongside Geelong Galaxy.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Hume Reserve\u2019s two fields will now be in use seven days a week during seasons for both training and games, with Corio\u2019s participation numbers expected to increase from 200 to 300 players.<\/p>\n<p>The partnership currently stands as a memorandum of understanding, but Krstevski said the two teams are in the process of finalising a \u201cfinancial arrangement\u201d in what is being described as a \u201csub-leasing agreement\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The Galaxy brings with them three junior sides and two senior teams, one being a competitor in the state\u2019s the VPLW competition, a rung below the National Premier League.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re going to bring an elite football program to their club,\u201d Krstevic said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s going to open a door to a lot of their juniors with all of our qualified coaching staff jumping on board.
