{"id":62394,"date":"2021-12-21T04:00:32","date_gmt":"2021-12-20T17:00:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=62394"},"modified":"2021-12-15T15:37:49","modified_gmt":"2021-12-15T04:37:49","slug":"india-robinson-2022-ct","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/india-robinson-2022-ct\/","title":{"rendered":"Robinson wins her spot in the 2022 CT"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>JAN Juc surfer India Robinson will be elevated into the big time next year after finishing in the top four of a season-ending competition in Hawaii last week.<\/p>\n<p>The 21-year-old\u2019s semi-final win in the Michelob ULTRA Pure Gold Haleiwa Challenger \u2013 the final stop on the World Surf League\u2019s (WSL) Challenger Tour \u2013 gave her enough points to secure her place in the top-flight Championship Tour (CT).<\/p>\n<p>A dominant showcase of her forehand attack at Haleiwa led her to a massive quarter-final victory before another win in the semi-finals.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was in shock, I was really excited, it was a dream come true for me,\u201d Robinson said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo when I got to the beach, I only had a quick five-minute turnaround and I had to go back out for the final, but I kept asking everyone around me \u2018have I done enough yet, have I qualified, can you tell me if I\u2019ve qualified?\u2019 and they were saying \u2018just focus on the final, you have to go out there and go again\u2019 but I&#8217;m like \u2018no, you need to tell me if I\u2019ve qualified\u2019, and they told me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo I paddled back out for the final and I was like \u2018holy s**t, I\u2019ve done it!\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_62401\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-62401\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-62401\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/12\/Untitled-design-20-1024x538.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"336\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/12\/Untitled-design-20-1024x538.png 1024w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/12\/Untitled-design-20-300x158.png 300w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/12\/Untitled-design-20-768x403.png 768w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/12\/Untitled-design-20.png 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-62401\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">India Robinson after placing fourth in the final at the Michelob ULTRA Pure Gold Haleiwa Challenger on December 5.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Despite finishing last in the final, Robinson\u2019s placing solidified her inside the top six in the Women\u2019s Challenger Series rankings in 2021 and thus the lineup among the WSL\u2019s best in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was definitely a lot of pressure going into that event and I didn\u2019t have the best lead-up &#8211; I had another knock to the head, which is the second concussion I\u2019ve had this year &#8211; so I\u2019ve had quite a few injuries and setbacks along the way, but as I soon as I got in the water and put that rashie on (at Haleiwa), I fell into a zone where I felt I couldn\u2019t fall off, it felt like I was almost unstoppable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Robinson will spend Christmas and NYE in Jan Juc with her family, who she hasn\u2019t seen in 10 months, before heading back to Hawaii to prepare for the CT season opener, the Billabong Pro Pipeline at Hawaii\u2019s Banzai Pipeline from January 29 to February 10.<\/p>\n<p>She said she was especially excited to be close to home in April at the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been so many years of trying to get to that event, that\u2019s the one event I\u2019m most excited about.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m going to be surrounded by my family and friends, I just can\u2019t wait.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>JAN Juc surfer India Robinson will be elevated into the big time next year after finishing in the top four of a season-ending competition in Hawaii last week.
