AN ANGLESEA boy is giving back to an institute for the help it gave him at a young age through his passion for comic books.<\/p>\n
Addis Sedgwick, an Anglesea local going into Grade 6 this year, is now officially a published author after Anglesea’s News & Lotto store offered to sell original copies of his handmade original comic book.<\/p>\n
Addis had spent time at the Royal Children’s Hospital earlier in his life as a Heart Kid, a term given to youngsters impacted by childhood heart diseases growing up and a part of a national not-for-profit organisation solely focused on support and advocacy.<\/p>\n
Now, he’s deciding to give back.<\/p>\n
Addis, along with his friend Theodore, produced their first ever comic named The Adventures of Blob, Snorlando and Rocky.<\/p>\n
Along with flexing their creative muscles, the two boys have also shown some entrepreneurship.<\/p>\n
The comic costs just three dollars, however, for every book that is sold, two dollars will be donated to the Royal Children’s Hospital.<\/p>\n
Co-owner of Anglesea News and Lotto, Corinne Nigro, says she is always excited to see Addis’s face when he visits.<\/p>\n
The avid comic book fan makes the trip to the local newsagents on a regular basis, seeing what the latest edition to the comic section is, before buying it straight off the shelf with the money he has saved.<\/p>\n
“He is the most vivacious, polite young man,” Ms Nigro said.<\/p>\n
“He has a pretty old head on his shoulders for a grade sixer, but he is just an absolute delight, and he has so much passion for the comic books he reads and writes.<\/p>\n
“He gets a little bit down when he gets to the store after school and there isn’t anything new in the comics section, but he just comes back another day. He’s delightful.”<\/p>\n
The new book is already gaining traction across the Surf Coast at an opportune time of the year where tourists and visitors will be arriving to coastal towns in droves.<\/p>\n
“I’ve also gotten a message from Pholklore in Torquay who have also reached out saying they want to sell some copies,” Ms Nigro added.
\n“He is already making plans for another book and can’t wait to get started.”<\/p>\n
