ART of the Minds will present the return of the annual Surf Coast Song Contest next week.<\/p>\n
People are invited to celebrate Australia Day Eve to the tunes of talented local musicians, who are looking forward to showcasing their musical talents to help raise awareness about mental health.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn support of our annual mental health and wellbeing festival, the contest is open to all genres of music and is inviting aspiring songwriters to enter their songs of hope and wellbeing,\u201d Art of the Minds president Jules Haddock said.<\/p>\n
The Song Contest was originally scheduled to take place in October 2021 but had to be postponed due to COVID-19.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m delighted that we were able to postpone this important event,\u201d Mrs Haddock said.<\/p>\n
\u201cMusic is such a powerful tool that brings us together and helps create deep connections.<\/p>\n
\u201cEvery year this particular event evokes incredibly raw emotions that sees audiences walk away inspired, informed and proud to live in this community.”<\/p>\n
Dan Phipps, winner of the 2020 Surf Coast Song Contest, said being part of the event \u201cchanged my life and has helped shaped my music career and songwriting\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cMaking the top 10 gave me self-belief in my songwriting ability and after winning the event I have gone on to record my EP, support Aussie icons like Brian Mannix and the Androids, The Chantoozies, Tim Henwood and more.\u201d<\/p>\n
The winner will have their song recorded at Oxygen College and be given opportunities to perform at the 2022 Art of the Minds Festival, to be held in October. Other prizes will be awarded thanks to the support from Music Workshop and local businesses.<\/p>\n
The Surf Coast Song Contest will be held at the Torquay Bowls Club on Tuesday, January 25.<\/p>\n
