{"id":63666,"date":"2022-02-02T04:00:13","date_gmt":"2022-02-01T17:00:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/surf-coast-tennis-championships-provide-quality-play\/"},"modified":"2022-01-27T10:02:46","modified_gmt":"2022-01-26T23:02:46","slug":"surf-coast-tennis-championships-provide-quality-play","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/surf-coast-tennis-championships-provide-quality-play\/","title":{"rendered":"Surf Coast tennis championships provide quality play"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SOME hot weather over the weekend was not enough to dampen the spirits of the Surf Coast\u2019s tennis stars from competing in their annual Club Championships.<\/p>\n<p>Two days of action saw junior and senior players from Torquay, Jan Juc and Bellbrae vying for a chance to call themselves Surf Coast Tennis Club (SCTC) champions, during what was fun and entertaining day of club-friendly competition.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 568px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/01\/SCTCJuniors_80447.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"568\" height=\"426\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Some of the action that took place on Sunday.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Singles competition was staged on Saturday with the seniors competing at Torquay and the juniors at Jan Juc, meanwhile Sundays saw the doubles hit the courts, the finals shortly after and presentations following that to conclude the two-day tournament.<br \/>\n\u201cIt was really hot on the Saturday and that was a bit tough on some of the competitors,\u201d SCTC secretary Kim Lawless-Pyne said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a fantastic weekend on the whole, we had umbrellas set up for the event and there was a fantastic atmosphere.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe quality of the tennis was amazing and the finals involving the men and women displayed quality tennis.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to Ms Lawless-Pyne, the presentations were a lovely way to conclude the club championships to round out another awesome championship event.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 357px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/01\/SCTCSinglesWinner_71010.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"357\" height=\"476\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Surf Coast Tennis Club singles champions Michael Hili and Lou Pahlenberg.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Lou Pahlenberg took out an exhilarating singles final over Bronwyn Mifsud winning the tiebreak set 4-6, 6-3, 10-5.<\/p>\n<p>In the men\u2019s, Michael Hili took home a dominant straight sets win over Johane Stephenson 6-4,6-3.<\/p>\n<p>Doubles action saw Mifsud get in the winner\u2019s column alongside partner Lyn Mellsop, defeating Kim Lawless-Pyne and Dianne Schultz.<\/p>\n<p>The same could also be said for Stephenson, who defeated Hili and Jack Tolley next to his partner in Sylvester Cafiso.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe annual event, despite being at the start of the year, feels like an end of year gather, I guess you could say,\u201d Ms Lawless-Pyne said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt brings people together and they all sit down and chat, creating for a wonderful atmosphere.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SOME hot weather over the weekend was not enough to dampen the spirits of the Surf Coast\u2019s tennis stars from competing in their annual Club Championships.
