{"id":63706,"date":"2022-01-28T04:45:38","date_gmt":"2022-01-27T17:45:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=63706"},"modified":"2022-01-28T08:51:50","modified_gmt":"2022-01-27T21:51:50","slug":"manifold-heights-nets-infrastructure-grant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/sport\/manifold-heights-nets-infrastructure-grant\/","title":{"rendered":"Manifold Heights nets infrastructure grant"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>AFTER four years of applications and a whole heap of determination, the Manifold Heights Cricket Club will soon get the training facilities it requires to accommodate the club\u2019s players.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the City of Greater Geelong\u2019s 2021-22 Community Infrastructure Grants Allocations, the Manifold Heights Cricket Club will receive a makeover to its turf and hard wicket cricket nets totalling $343,600 after several applications over the last few years.<\/p>\n<p>The club located at Harold Hurst Reserve in Herne Hill, neighbouring St Joseph\u2019s College Westcourt campus and Clonard College, will be retrofitted with six new turf nets and four hard wicket nets as part of the ground\u2019s upgrades, an increase from its original six.<\/p>\n<p>The new nets will include full runups as well, which the club is very excited for.<\/p>\n<p>Club stalwart Damian Tom said these new upgrades will aid in providing suitable facilities in a bid to compete with other nearby Geelong clubs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor us to be a competitive club in our area we need the resources to attract a steady flow of players,\u201d Tom said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are clubs like Bell Park, St Peter\u2019s, Joeys, Newtown and Chilwell, Geelong West and Murgheboluc all within a five-kilometre radius, so these upgrades will help us bring in new players.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 499px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/01\/IMG_3801_99953.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"499\" height=\"333\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Damian Tom with Harold Hurst Reserve in the background.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Tom also believes the new upgrades will bring a sense of pride back to the club\u2019s facilities, as well as possibly bringing back a women\u2019s side in 2022\/23, despite being one of the founding clubs in the region\u2019s Barwon Women\u2019s Cricket Competition four seasons ago.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 486px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/01\/IMG_3807_26448.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"486\" height=\"324\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The existing training nets at Manifold Heights Cricket Club.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Tom also could not speak highly enough of the efforts made by Cr Eddy Kontelj, who has been a tremendous advocate for the club\u2019s upgrades over the years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe has been absolutely helpful throughout this entire process,\u201d Tom added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs too have the City of Greater Geelong, its Senior Recreation and Open Space Officer Paul Cotter and state MP Christine Couzens, who helped point the club in the right direction during the early stages of the grant application.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Manifold Heights presently boasts two GCA Division 3 sides, two One Day squads and five Under 11 teams.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>AFTER four years of applications and a whole heap of determination, the Manifold Heights Cricket Club will soon get the training facilities it requires to accommodate the club\u2019s players.
