NBN Co has reminded people in parts of Torquay and Winchelsea to connect to the National Broadband Network (NBN) before the 18-month window expires.<\/p>\n
The company responsible for rolling out the NBN across Australia held community information sessions in Torquay and Winchelsea earlier this week to allow people to check if their address was eligible for connection and to answer questions about the network.<\/p>\n
The sessions were held using NBN Co\u2019s truck that can connect to the internet anywhere in Australia through the NBN\u2019s SkyMuster satellite, although the truck used the existing 4G signal to power its internet connection this week.<\/p>\n
Head of NBN Local (NBN Co\u2019s rural and regional arm) for Victoria and Tasmania Ebony Aitken said about about 50 people visited the community information sessions.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith Torquay and Winchelsea\u2019s transition to the NBN access network almost complete, it is very important that residents and businesses contact their phone or internet provider to order an NBN-powered plan if they wish to continue using their landline phone and internet services before the existing copper network in the area is disconnected.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe rollout of the NBN broadband access network is one the biggest transformations to Australia\u2019s telecommunications industry to ever occur \u2013 it represents significant change for consumers and businesses as they make the move to the new network.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith the rollout of the NBN broadband access network almost complete in the region, the NBN Local team will continue working with local stakeholders and community groups to ensure any local problems are identified early and addressed.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to an NBN Co FAQ list, homes and businesses are recommended to talk to their phone or internet provider about the speed tiers available in their area, as well as the actual speeds they can expect to experience, particularly during the evening and other peak times.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou should also keep in mind that 25 megabits or above is considered a superfast broadband speed. A retail plan based on the wholesale 12\/1 speed tier is not considered superfast and is likely to be comparable with your current ADSL service.\u201d<\/p>\n
