MORE than $140,000 in funding for projects across the region has been approved in round three of the federal government\u2019s Stronger Communities Program.<\/p>\n
One of the largest amounts is $20,000 towards a pool heating upgrade at the Apollo Bay Aquatic Centre.<\/p>\n
Corangamite federal member Sarah Henderson said the pool heating was part of a larger $400,000 project to enclose the pool and heat it all year round.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Apollo Bay community has raised $220,000 to date including the Stronger Communities grant. This is an amazing effort.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am such a strong supporter of this project and will continue to work hard with community members to support the additional monies required to create a first-class community pool for Apollo Bay.<\/p>\n
\u201cI call on Colac Otway Shire to commit to funding the ongoing maintenance of the pool, which is integral to the success of this project.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Kennett River Association has received $20,000, which will cover half of the cost of building a wildlife walk at the Kennett River picnic ground. However, Ms Henderson said that with the number of tourists stopping to see koalas and birds, Kennett River needed much more infrastructure, including proper car parking and toilets.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe state government must urgently prioritise public toilet facilities at Kennett River.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe current situation is untenable. It is having a major impact on Koala Caf\u00e9\u2019s business, on our reputation as a world-class tourism destination and immediate action is required.\u201d<\/p>\n
