TWO community groups got through a sweltering weekend with a little help from Coles\u2019 Torquay supermarket.<\/p>\n
As temperatures in Torquay and surrounds soared past 40 degrees on January 6, Coles team-members turned their attention to pets in need at the Geelong Animal Welfare Society (GAWS), donating 200 bottles of frozen water to help keep the animals cool.<\/p>\n
Established in 1956, GAWS relies on the generous support of the community to help run their animal shelter and veterinary clinic.<\/p>\n
The society services local areas including the City of Greater Geelong, Golden Plains Shire and Surf Coast Shire, ensuring that all furry and four-legged friends are well looked after.<\/p>\n
On the same day, the supermarket also donated 2,000 pieces of fresh fruit to the Jan Juc Surf Life Saving Club for its annual Danger Ocean Swim Series at Point Danger, one of the biggest and most popular open water swims in Victoria.<\/p>\n
Coles Torquay store manager Alex Jolley said the team was passionate about helping local community groups in need.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur team is truly committed to the community, and we like to do what we can to support local groups and organisations.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe regularly put call outs to find those who are in need of support, whether it is for fundraising or donations.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe cannot wait to continue supporting local groups within the community and the Surf Coast region throughout 2018.<\/p>\n
