{"id":6491,"date":"2018-01-18T14:40:08","date_gmt":"2018-01-18T03:40:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=6491"},"modified":"2018-01-23T11:43:25","modified_gmt":"2018-01-23T00:43:25","slug":"grants-support-volunteer-firefighters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/grants-support-volunteer-firefighters\/","title":{"rendered":"Grants to support volunteer firefighters"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>VOLUNTEER firefighting brigades can now apply for grants of up to $250,000 through a $10 million state government funded.<\/p>\n<p>The program will be administered by the CFA to support volunteer brigade equipment and facility upgrades, as well as local initiatives that strengthen volunteerism and brigade culture.<\/p>\n<p>Grants will be provided to projects that address a range of key criteria, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Addressing immediate needs and enhancing operational capability<\/li>\n<li>Improving culture, diversity and fairness<\/li>\n<li>Strengthening volunteer leadership skills<\/li>\n<li>Encouraging recruitment, retention and recognition of volunteers, and<\/li>\n<li>Reflecting the evolving needs and demographics of the communities that volunteer brigades serve.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The grants program has been funded through the $60 million that the state government announced for Victoria\u2019s fire services in October.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis $10 million grants program recognises the vital role that volunteer firefighters play in protecting lives and properties,\u201d Minister for Emergency Services James Merlino said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur volunteers are often the first line of defence against fires, floods and other emergencies, and we want to support them in every way we can.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur reforms provide more support, more independence and more funding to volunteers \u2013 and that\u2019s exactly what they deserve.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>CFA chief officer Steve Warrington said the grants will help volunteer brigades build on the outstanding service they provide to the community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have consulted widely with our volunteers to identify the best ways we can enhance volunteerism, and this program is one of the key measures we have adopted as a result of that process.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Brigades can work together and submit joint applications, and have until the end of February to apply.<\/p>\n<p>For more information, head to cfa.vic.gov.au.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>VOLUNTEER firefighting brigades can now apply for grants of up to $250,000 through a $10 million state government funded.
