{"id":65042,"date":"2022-02-27T04:15:16","date_gmt":"2022-02-26T17:15:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=65042"},"modified":"2022-02-22T16:59:06","modified_gmt":"2022-02-22T05:59:06","slug":"torquay-celebrates-first-pink-patrol-in-clubs-history","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/torquay-celebrates-first-pink-patrol-in-clubs-history\/","title":{"rendered":"Torquay celebrates first Pink Patrol in club&#8217;s history"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>TORQUAY SLSC celebrated Pink Patrol for the first time in its 77-year history on Saturday, commencing the day with a Ladies Luncheon.<\/p>\n<p>Generations of members made their way to Torquay SLSC to celebrate and acknowledge the efforts women have made to lifesaving over the years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe day was a huge success,\u201d club president Tiffany Quinlan said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe bringing together of multiple generations from many disciplines to share stories was enlightening and fun for all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Ladies Luncheon served as a fundraiser for the club\u2019s redevelopment, while $5 from every ticket sold was donated to the Breast Cancer Awareness Network.<\/p>\n<p>The luncheon provided an opportunity to reflect upon and give thanks to the female change-makers of Torquay SLSC\u2019s past.<\/p>\n<p>Tokyo Olympian in kayaking, Shannon Reynolds, who is new to Torquay SLSC, was one of several special speakers to attend the luncheon.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 492px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/02\/TSLSCPink3_93409.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"492\" height=\"370\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Women who attended listened to several guest speakers on the day.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Other speakers included Dr Anne Waterhouse, who was kind enough to share her experiences of her regular Antarctica trips and work in Indigenous communities.<\/p>\n<p>Attendees also heard from Life Member Jan King and her daughter Penny Altman, Torquay SLSC\u2019s longest serving volunteer patroller.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 463px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/02\/TSLSCPink1_39492.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"463\" height=\"348\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dozens of women draped in pink were in attendance for Saturday&#8217;s Ladies Luncheon.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Afterwards, the first Pink Patrol involved current active members, both women and male champions of change.<\/p>\n<p>The patrol gave the club an opportunity to be seen in public as a symbol of unity and a sign of inclusive times to come.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo see many ladies who are long term members chatting to some of our youth demonstrates the ability of a surf club to create a community where everyone has a place,\u201d Ms Quinlan added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI felt both honoured and humbled to be in a room of so many women who are all remarkable in their own way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Other Surf Coast clubs involved in the Pink Patrol on Saturday at their respected beaches included Lorne and Fairhaven.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TORQUAY SLSC celebrated Pink Patrol for the first time in its 77-year history on Saturday, commencing the day with a Ladies Luncheon.
