AVALON Raceway\u2019s long standing tradition of family-friendly hot summer Speedway nights continues Saturday night, March 5, with the annual running of the Great Southern Showdown event for Sprintcars and there\u2019s ground pounding V8 Dirt Modifieds as well.<\/p>\n

Some of Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania\u2019s best drivers will be on hand reaching speeds of up to 150 kilometres an hour around the 400-metre dirt track oval in their 900-plus horsepower Sprintcars<\/p>\n

Avalon Raceway is a tricky venue for some with a unique layout and an at times testing surface, the \u201cA-Main\u201d winner at the end of a night\u2019s competition has really earned their money.<\/p>\n

Between 30 and 50 Sprintcars can compete on any given night at Avalon.<\/p>\n

Weighing less than a small road car but with close to 1000 horsepower, Sprintcars have a power to weight ratio comparable to that of a F1 car.<\/p>\n

Former World F1 Champion Jackie Stewart once famously described them as \u201cthe last frontier in auto racing\u201d.<\/p>\n

Waters is a regular at Avalon Raceway in his bright fluro green and yellow Sprintcar.<\/p>\n

\u201cA Sprintcar is like nothing on earth,\u201d the Ford Tickford Racing Supercar superstar said.<\/p>\n
