{"id":65946,"date":"2022-03-15T04:15:58","date_gmt":"2022-03-14T17:15:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=65946"},"modified":"2022-03-08T19:48:21","modified_gmt":"2022-03-08T08:48:21","slug":"committed-locals-get-to-the-point-on-national-clean-up-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/committed-locals-get-to-the-point-on-national-clean-up-day\/","title":{"rendered":"Committed locals get to the point on national Clean Up Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A COUPLE dozen committed Surf Coast locals originating from Torquay to Aireys Inlet remained undeterred by the high winds and barrage of light rain to take part in the annual Point Addis<br \/>\nClean Up.<\/p>\n<p>The Clean Up, as has been the case for almost 20 years, coincided with the nationwide Clean Up Australia Day event.<\/p>\n<p>The Friends of Point Addis community group organised rubbish bags, high-visibility vests, tongs, and gloves for all who attended on the day.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/03\/IMG_0805_88818.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Stuart Spark providing a briefing on Sunday morning.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The day entailed a briefing shortly after 9am before avid participants were sent on their way along the Point where bags were filled during the next hour.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 389px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/03\/IMG_0832_83442.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"389\" height=\"259\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sustainable bags are a staple of Clean Up Australia Day.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Former Geelong Mayor and Liberal candidate for the seat of Corangamite Stephanie Asher also donated some of her weekend to clean up the much-loved area on the Surf Coast.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt doesn\u2019t take long to clean up an area that large when you have plenty of people jump on and help out like we did on Sunday,\u201d participant and member of the Torquay Rotary Club Greg Plumridge said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had the largest involvement of rotary members get involved despite the weather than we have ever had in the past, which was wonderful.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe day is great because you feel like you\u2019ve done your bit for the local community and to hear the positive words of those passing by such as surfers and walkers, was really nice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Two members of Forest and Wildlife were also in attendance.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A COUPLE dozen committed Surf Coast locals originating from Torquay to Aireys Inlet remained undeterred by the high winds and barrage of light rain to take part in the annual Point Addis Clean Up.
