A COMMUNITY bowling day set to raise crucial equipment funding for the local SES unit is back on.<\/p>\n
The Lions Club of Torquay has announced the revival of its annual Charity Bowls Day for April 22, after plans to hold it in January were quashed due to COVID-related concerns.<\/p>\n
“When the club resurrected the January event, local traders, having gifted donations and vouchers for thousands of dollars, were pleased to see the charity day go ahead,” Torquay Lions president Neil Roche said.<\/p>\n
The annual event usually takes place at the Torquay Bowls Club in January each year, nevertheless, Mr Roche said Lions members were ecstatic to get the event back on track in autumn.<\/p>\n
“Our Lions who had worked hard to make this year’s charity bowls day a memorable success are elated,” Mr Roche said.<\/p>\n
“Funds raised from the coming charity day are dedicated to Torquay’s VICSES unit enabling the unit to purchase additional specialised equipment.<\/p>\n
“One-hundred-and-twenty bowlers are expected to play, and, from past events, we know how generous they are in helping us raise funds.”<\/p>\n
Torquay’s Lions Club continues to play a pivotal role in raising funds for local organisations.<\/p>\n
Previous fundraising initiatives piloted by the club have benefited the Torquay Fire Brigade and the Torquay Marine Rescue Service, surf lifesaving clubs and local police.<\/p>\n
“Monies raised from our community are dedicated for return to organisations which serve the whole community, those who suffer disasters, young people, and those in need,” Mr Roche said.<\/p>\n
