THE Torquay Central Combined Probus Club has entered its second decade with a celebration of new and lifelong leadership alike.<\/p>\n
Last month at their Annual General Meeting the club introduced the group’s new leadership team for 2022 and awarded a life membership to member and new 2022 vice-president Gail Birchall.<\/p>\n
The club’s previous president Trevor Bell, who handed over presidency this year to Charmaine D’Souza, presented Ms Birchall with the award for her loyal service.<\/p>\n
“Gail was the club’s first president and in the ensuing 11 years she has been in a leadership position every year,” Mr Bell said.<\/p>\n
“Her value to the club has never been more evident than at the moment when we were struggling to find a vice-president, Gail stepped up to take over that position.”<\/p>\n
Ms Birchall was also recently honoured by Rotary, awarding her a Paul Harris fellowship for her service to the community.<\/p>\n
Mr Bell said this was the second time the club had ever presented the award, and a testimony to the impressive commitment of Ms Birchall, as well as the wonderful community environment of their Torquay Central Combined Probus Club.<\/p>\n
“Probus is meant to be a place of motto, fun, friendship and fellowship for active retirees, and that’s what it is.”<\/p>\n
Mr Bell said the club was confident the new leadership was ready to take on the next 11 years with the same sense of community that has developed over the past decade.<\/p>\n
