{"id":67575,"date":"2022-04-14T04:45:08","date_gmt":"2022-04-13T18:45:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=67575"},"modified":"2022-04-14T04:45:08","modified_gmt":"2022-04-13T18:45:08","slug":"soccer-mums-biting-into-the-action","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/sport\/soccer-mums-biting-into-the-action\/","title":{"rendered":"Soccer mums biting into the action"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MOTHERS at a Bellarine-based soccer club are putting their ball skills to the test thanks to a new and exciting initiative.<\/p>\n<p>Based at Lake Reserve in St Leonards, the Bellarine Sharks have kicked off a fresh new program dubbed Go Soccer Mums, a joint collaboration between local services to cater to mothers of local clubs across the region wanting to take their soccer game up a notch.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis program is really good,\u201d program coordinator Alicia Hildebrandt said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have already had two of our Go Soccer Mums line up for our senior women\u2019s side this season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMyself personally, I\u2019m even using the program to recover from a foot injury and get back my level of fitness to play for the women\u2019s senior side again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 679px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/04\/IMG_9501_23107.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"679\" height=\"453\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">make household waste collection more financially and environmentally sustainable.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Participants go through a full training session from a warmup at the beginning through to heart-pumping drills as training rolls on.<\/p>\n<p>According to Sharks vice-president Jaren Fulwell, the program is predominantly subsidised by Geelong-based disability support service Leisure Networks and VicHealth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe funding provided by these organisations is great on two fronts,\u201d Fulwell said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt helps with the health and well-being of the participants in the program, but also gets mothers in amongst a club culture which creates so many more benefits in a social sense.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 534px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/04\/IMG_9519_76026.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"534\" height=\"356\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ball skills are refined each week during the program.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Not only mothers are encouraged to join the program as the initiative\u2019s name might suggest, but anyone willing to give soccer a go is urged to get in contact with the club.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have women who have never played sports in their lives, never played soccer in their lives,\u201d Hildebrandt added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s just a great way to learn new skills like being a good teammate and learn how to play a sport and connect with their kids through the game.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bellarine Sharks boasts a men\u2019s and women\u2019s senior team, an under 13 girls team, two under 11 teams and two under 9 squads, approximately 110 players in total.<\/p>\n<p>To join the club head to the Sharks\u2019 website www.bellarinesharks.com.au.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MOTHERS at a Bellarine-based soccer club are putting their ball skills to the test thanks to a new and exciting initiative.
