SURF Coast residents will decide which local climate projects receive a $5000 funding boost.<\/p>\n
Surf Coast Shire council has launched a “Pitch your project” initiative, which will provide funding to two popular local projects to support the shire’s climate action campaign.<\/p>\n
The funding comes under the council’s Climate Emergency Grants scheme, and must help enact its 10-year plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and mobilise local action on climate change.<\/p>\n
Applications are open until May 23, before a pitch event at Surf Coast Shire offices on June 5, for World Environment Day.<\/p>\n
The two projects that receive the most community votes will receive $5000 each in council funding.<\/p>\n
Mayor Libby Stapleton encouraged community groups, schools and businesses to present their case.<\/p>\n
“Responding to our climate emergency takes a whole-of-community approach,” she said.<\/p>\n
“Fortunately, we have many local groups and people who are passionate about our environment and taking action on climate change. Our Climate Emergency Grants program is about harnessing locals’ passion and ideas to make a bigger difference.<\/p>\n
“We’re looking for project ideas that will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and involve as many local people as possible to become agents of change.<\/p>\n
“What I love most about this, is that it’s all driven by our local community. And when local people see others taking action, it inspires them to do the same, so the benefits keep flowing on.”<\/p>\n
The council is inviting prospective applicants to discuss their proposals with sustainability or grants staff by contacting shire offices.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
