LABOR has partially matched the Liberals\u2019 election commitments towards projects in Spring Creek, with an Albanese Labor Government to put $700,000 towards the Torquay Tigers Spring Creek Football & Netball Club changerooms.<\/p>\n
Corangamite Labor federal member Libby Coker said the pledge of funds to upgrade and modernise the changerooms was an investment in the Torquay Tigers, and especially in female and junior sport.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Torquay community has won the funding commitment on a needs basis,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cTorquay continues to grow, as does the interest in sport among women and girls within the local community. It\u2019s important that women and girls have the facilities they need to participate fully in local sport.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe upgrades will be an important long-term investment in local footy, netball and cricket, and the community generally.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have recently seen a giant increase in sports participation as opportunities and choices open up for women and girls. The surge in participation of women in sport is fantastic to see.
\n\u201cStrengthening local club infrastructure increases participation, enjoyment and good health.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Coker\u2019s commitment, like that of Liberal candidate for Corangamite Stephanie Asher on Tuesday last week, will cover just over half of the $1.3 million cost of the Spring Creek Reserve Pavilion upgrades, which will see the existing changerooms upgraded to become female-friendly and the canteen relocated into an upgraded spectators\u2019 facility next door, which would also include an elevated timekeepers\u2019 box.<\/p>\n
Last week, Ms Asher also said a re-elected Morrison Liberal Government would commit $1.25 million towards the $2.5 million Spring Creek Community Hub, to be built next to the tennis courts at the east side of the reserve.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
