{"id":68510,"date":"2022-04-28T04:45:27","date_gmt":"2022-04-27T18:45:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=68510"},"modified":"2022-04-28T04:45:27","modified_gmt":"2022-04-27T18:45:27","slug":"womens-showcase-to-hit-geelong","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/sport\/womens-showcase-to-hit-geelong\/","title":{"rendered":"Women&#8217;s Showcase to hit Geelong"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>AUSTRALIA\u2019S best female baseball talent will show off their skills on the diamond when they descend on Geelong Baseball Centre early next month.<\/p>\n<p>Baseball Australia\u2019s Australian Women\u2019s Baseball Showcase taking place from May 5 to May 8 will bring together a mixture of Australian Emeralds stars and some of the best female prospects from across the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs baseball continues to climb its way out of the COVID pandemic, we are excited to have this exciting event squarely in our sights,\u201d Baseball Australia CEO Glenn Williams said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 553px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/04\/AE9Q7567_06407.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"553\" height=\"323\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Morgan Dotty of Victoria Blue stretches for a catch.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The four-day showcase at Geelong Baseball Centre in Grovedale, supported by the Victorian Government through its Significant Sporting Events Program, will mix the country\u2019s best women from three teams the Adelaide Giants, Brisbane Bandits and Victoria Aces, into high-calibre top-level sides.<\/p>\n<p>In all, there will be seven baseball games culminating in a May 8 decider as the showcase adds another step in the journey of forming a professional women\u2019s league in Australia.<\/p>\n<p>Geelong has long been a baseball hub throughout Victoria and member for South Barwon Darren Cheeseman said it is exciting to lock in major women\u2019s baseball event on the calendar.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are committed to levelling the playing field, and investment in women\u2019s sport is critical to achieving this outcome,\u201d Mr Cheeseman said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur support of the Australian Women\u2019s Baseball Showcase brings the nation\u2019s best baseballers to Geelong and we look forward welcoming them to the region this May.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 574px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/04\/AE9Q7755_47075.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"574\" height=\"524\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Shae Lillywhite of Victoria Blue at the 2019 Australian Women&#8217;s Baseball Championship Series.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Baseball Australia\u2019s Mr Williams said the showcase would build on last year\u2019s historic Women\u2019s Baseball Showcase and that Geelong was the perfect fit after the city hosted the 2020 KBO Challenge featuring Team Australia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Australian Women\u2019s Showcase was a great success in 2021, and the support from the Victorian Government will allow us to build on that momentum as we continue to edge closer to a sustainable and successful professional women\u2019s baseball league in Australia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe passionate Geelong baseball community will have the chance to see Australia\u2019s best female players compete in the showcase and we are excited to host this great event in Geelong.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>More information on Baseball Australia\u2019s push towards a professional women\u2019s league can be found at www.aleagueofherown.com.au.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>AUSTRALIA\u2019S best female baseball talent will show off their skills on the diamond when they descend on Geelong Baseball Centre early next month.
