THE Surf Coast Shire is on the hunt for last-minute expressions of interest to form the council’s new Positive Ageing Advisory Committee (PAAC) that is endorsed every three years.<\/p>\n
Made up of 11 community representatives, the new PAAC will aim to reflect diversity of the shire in gender, culture and geography to help the shire achieve an age-friendly Surf Coast with submissions to join the committee closing tomorrow at 5pm.<\/p>\n
“It’s an exciting time when we open up Expressions of Interest for the Positive Ageing Advisory Committee, as it represents an opportunity to welcome new passionate community members to share their knowledge and ideas,” mayor Libby Stapleton said.<\/p>\n
“We’re currently seeking representatives from Anglesea and Torquay so if you live in either of these towns, you’re over 55 and you’re interested in being part of the committee, please apply via our website or by calling our helpful customer service team.<\/p>\n
“It is a fabulous way to make a difference and help foster a connected community.”<\/p>\n
The PAAC will provide insight and advice to council by collecting and considering evidence and ideas from the community to better cater to the over-55 demographic of the region.<\/p>\n
Members of the PAAC will work alongside a nominated councillor, relevant council officers and champion the facilitation of the shire’s Age Friendly Strategy 2020-2024.<\/p>\n
“We want the Surf Coast to be an age-friendly community \u2013 a place where older people are valued, respected and supported to participate in their community,” Cr Stapleton said.<\/p>\n
“Our Positive Ageing Advisory Committee plays an important role in this, by providing valuable advice for council strategies, plans and policies that relate to people ageing well in their communities.”<\/p>\n
