ORGANISERS and attendees have lauded the success of a historic Anglesea war history exhibition.<\/p>\n

More than 1000 people visited the Know Our Names exhibition over three days from April 30.<\/p>\n

Attendees included repeat visitors keen to soak in the entirety of the exhibit and others who returned with their families to read stories of their ancestors and their links to Australia’s war history.<\/p>\n

Almost 250 students from nearby schools also viewed the collection of history and memorabilia and the recently completed Memorial Wall, which sparked the idea for Know Our Names.<\/p>\n

The exhibition showcased local links to major Australian military events especially World War Two, when the district had stories of submarines, mine fields, air observers, spy planes and military bases.<\/p>\n

“It was wonderful to see the community enthusiasm and to read all the great comments on Facebook, and to know that a year of research and planning culminated in so many people really appreciating the event,” organiser Jane Shennan said.<\/p>\n

“Our goal was to give identity to and understanding of the people whose names are enshrined on our new Memorial Wall and I think we achieved that.<\/p>\n

“Our thanks go to all the groups, individuals and volunteers who contributed their time, loaned their memorabilia and told their stories to help make Know Our Names so successful.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
