{"id":69602,"date":"2022-05-13T04:45:39","date_gmt":"2022-05-12T18:45:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=69602"},"modified":"2022-05-11T12:55:16","modified_gmt":"2022-05-11T02:55:16","slug":"sba-grand-finals-sound-off-on-stellar-summer-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/sport\/sba-grand-finals-sound-off-on-stellar-summer-season\/","title":{"rendered":"SBA grand finals sound off on stellar summer season"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SURFCOAST Basketball Association (SBA) has held a successful grand final weekend to farewell its long-awaited summer season as Wurdi Baierr Stadium hosted hundreds of families seeking domestic-level glory.<\/p>\n<p>Leading association officials such as president Dave Scott were extremely happy to see countless smiles on the faces of parents, friends and players over the weekend as disrupted seasons dating back to mid 2020 have had a dramatic effect on local basketball.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was amazing to see everyone turn out for grand final weekend,\u201d Scott said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt really stuck with our core values here at the SBA, just those elements of inclusion, effort, and enjoyment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGrand final weekend always brings together a community and we saw that this year without a doubt as well as some terrific competition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 684px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/05\/Under18BoysDiv1Winn_90855.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"684\" height=\"513\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Under 18 winners Allstars after knocking over Untitled 36-32.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Boys\u2019 and girls\u2019 games ranging from under 12s to under 18s provided enjoyable play for spectators, but Scott mentioned the tireless work of the association\u2019s staff in making the season a memorable one.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been a while since we\u2019ve held a weekend like this,\u201d Scott said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m so grateful for the work that everyone has done since the start of the season, allowing us to see these kids playing the game that we all love each and every week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe magnificent turnout that we saw on grand final weekend was a testament to that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 698px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/05\/Under10BoysDiv1Winn_38950.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"698\" height=\"523\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Under 10 division 1 champions Torquay Nets after defeating Sharks 19-18.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Basketball across the Surf Coast, Geelong and Bellarine is fully underway with record numbers of participation being observed by associations and Scott confirmed that trend for the SBA.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re certainly seeing record numbers here at Surfcoast,\u201d Scott added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can only speak for us that we have seen another 20 per cent increase in participants for the winter season so it\u2019s certainly going strength-to-strength moving forward off the back of high numbers this past summer season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe certainly see a lot of benefits having basketball played across the region and it seems that the community thinks that too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The SBA also currently exhibits men\u2019s and women\u2019s Big V senior sides, a first-ever for the association.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SURFCOAST Basketball Association (SBA) has held a successful grand final weekend to farewell its long-awaited summer season as Wurdi Baierr Stadium hosted hundreds of families seeking domestic-level glory.
