DEDICATED volunteers from across the 3228 postcode are taking part in clean ups at three Surf Coast locations this Sunday, with organisers encouraging more people to join.<\/p>\n
Local not-for-profits A Cleaner Coast and Surfrider Foundation will be running three separate beach clean ups at Winki Pop and Bells Beach, Jan Juc Village and Zeally Sands located near the Karaaf Wetlands.<\/p>\n
“Both organisations see this event as a wonderful opportunity to do something big for our coast and celebrate the amazing community that we live in,” A Cleaner Coast event coordinator Kate Griffin said.<\/p>\n
“We held this event back in 2019 with a barbecue and live music in Jan Juc with an obvious two-year absence after that, so it made total sense to start up the event again this year.”<\/p>\n
Ms Griffin is encouraging people who are keen to join this year’s clean-up but don’t want to get too dirty to head to either Bells Beach or Jan Juc given it is more accessible.<\/p>\n
The Surfrider-run clean up in Torquay North at Zeally Sands requires paddling equipment such as a canoe or kayak.<\/p>\n
Clean-ups will commence at 10am before participants gather at Bells Beach Brewing where there will be live music, food, beers, and prizes from 1pm onwards.<\/p>\n
“The day will be so much fun because there will be so many people coming together from so many different areas, people that you wouldn’t normally hang out with,” Ms Griffin said.<\/p>\n
“It’s such a positive interaction with a whole heap of people and it contributes a heap of good to the coast that we all love.”<\/p>\n
