{"id":69906,"date":"2022-05-24T04:15:55","date_gmt":"2022-05-23T18:15:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=69906"},"modified":"2022-05-18T10:56:13","modified_gmt":"2022-05-18T00:56:13","slug":"thousands-pack-out-gor-running-festival","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/thousands-pack-out-gor-running-festival\/","title":{"rendered":"Thousands pack out GOR Running Festival"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CLOSE to 8,000 runners taking part in races spanning 1.5km to 60km descended on the famous Great Ocean Road for the 18th edition of the Great Ocean Road Running Festival.<\/p>\n<p>The two-day event invited runners of all ages to take in the breathtaking scenes of more than a dozen courses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was an honour to deliver another successful Great Ocean Road Running Festival with the help of our amazing event and charity partners, volunteers and sponsors,\u201d festival director, Brad King said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to say a big thank you to all participants who took to the tracks and spectators who offered their incredible support along the way. The atmosphere was electric, and we can\u2019t wait to be back in May 2023.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kirstin Bull and Dion Finocchiaro took home the Kieser Marathon event starting in Lorne and ending in Apollo Bay, completing the 44km headline event in 3:04:28 and 2:30:20 respectively.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 548px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/05\/WINNER-KieserMarath_41785.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"548\" height=\"365\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Winner of the female Kieser Marathon Kirstin Bull finishing in 3:04:28.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Geelong\u2019s Sara Coulter and Ocean Grove\u2019s Danni Rogan rounded out the podium behind Bull, adding to some of the local success over the two days.<\/p>\n<p>Local wait staff battled it out on the Saturday in the Pub to Pub Waiter\u2019s Race with Adam Laylor from Apollo Bay Distillery taking home the 2022 title in one of the more fun-filled races.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 553px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/05\/Participantsofthe14_76876.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"553\" height=\"369\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Runners jet off from the start line in the 14km Paradise Run.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Fundraising totals raised by runners have added to the event\u2019s success in 2022, accumulating more than the $75,000 target that organisers were hoping for.<\/p>\n<p>The vital funds raised for well-deserving charities include Cancer Council Victoria, Beyond Blue and the Apollo Bay &amp; District Health Foundation (official event charity partner), will help to provide important care for communities located along the race\u2019s route.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 581px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/05\/WINNER-UltraMaratho_89744.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"581\" height=\"387\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ultra Marathon male winner Zackary Beasley finished in 4:05:22.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis event falls on what was historically one of the quietest weekends of the year for tourism businesses and has now become one of the busiest weekends of the year for many,\u201d Great Ocean Road Regional Tourism general manager Liz Price said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCongratulations to all those who participated and had the opportunity to experience part of the iconic Great Ocean Road journey on foot.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 638px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/05\/ViewsfromGORRF20_67238.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"638\" height=\"425\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The views of the Great Ocean Road are a major drawcard for runners every year.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The 2023 Great Ocean Road Running Festival is already confirmed to take place next May on Victoria\u2019s south-west coast.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>CLOSE to 8,000 runners taking part in races spanning 1.5km to 60km descended on the famous Great Ocean Road for the 18th edition of the Great Ocean Road Running Festival.
