FOR only the second time in its 15-year history, Torquay Lions Village is holding an open day.
\nThe residents are proud of their village in Kooringa Place, and have decided to throw open the village for the public to visit on April 3 from noon to 3pm. Village Committee president Phillip Newson said the Lions Village was a well-established home for many of Torquay\u2019s older residents.
\n\u201cWhen the Lions Club of Torquay began this project more than 15 years ago there were no such facilities in Torquay.
\n\u201cNow we have one of the most attractive villages in the region.
\nTorquay enabling older persons to be able to live independently in a communal environment. \u201cThey no longer had to leave Torquay to spend their retirement.\u201d
\nThe Lions Village has 29 units set among gardens hold open day lovingly cared for by the managers and residents. It has a community centre where the residents gather for social activities or to use the well stocked library.
\nDuring the open day, a unit will be open for inspection displaying the standard of facilities available.
\nThe community centre will feature a display of the development of the village through the years. Torquay Lions Club will provide a free sausage sizzle for those wandering through the village.
\n\u201cThe Lions Village is a great example of an independent living retirement village,\u201d Mr Newson said.
\n\u201cIt won a Victorian Premier Award some years ago and has developed into a showpiece since then. \u201cPeople are welcome to join us on April 3 to talk with village committee members and residents, many of whom are very well-known in the region.\u201d<\/p>\n
