AN OUTDOOR viewing and sound experience will come to life and light up the night in Torquay this Saturday.<\/p>\n

Illumination explores the transformative nature of life, the land and constellations beyond, honouring the First Nations People and their ancient culture\u2019s storytelling medium of paint.<\/p>\n

The metamorphosis of vibrant moving paint landscapes will be projected at a large scale onto one of the northern exterior wall at the Wurdi Baierr Stadium in Torquay North accompanied by a deep and lifting soundscape.<\/p>\n

Rebecca Hosking, one of the co-creators of the project with Surf Coast painters Robert Kain, Kathryn Junor and Gwyn Wise, said Illumination would bring together Surf Coast paint artists and sound artists with film and projection art to connect community and enliven the senses.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s very much an experiment.<\/p>\n

I have been working with paint, being an artist and filming what they create instead of working with the end product when it\u2019s dry \u2013 it\u2019s a liquid, so it\u2019s liquid paint and it\u2019s very much an expression of paint, and I\u2019ve set that to music.\u201d<\/p>\n

The audience will watch the projection from a large viewing area.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith COVID restrictions, I took all of that into consideration when I was planning it, so there\u2019s plenty of space for people to view it comfortably; that was important to me,\u201d Hosking said.<\/p>\n

Hosking said she had done several outdoor projection projects before, but none recently in the Surf Coast.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a good visual experience, it\u2019s an experience for people in the community to come along to.<\/p>\n

They can stand there for the seven minutes, they can stand there for 20 minutes, to watch it, enjoy it and hopefully feel inspired and illuminated and go back to their regular life having experienced some art forms.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor me, this will be step one of a bigger process of a large piece where I\u2019ll be developing further concepts around it.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s also giving an opportunity for all of us as artists to work together to create something new with a purpose and an outcome that we can share with others and bring everyone together.\u201d<\/p>\n

The project was a recipient of the Surf Coast Shire\u2019s COVID Recovery Grants.<\/p>\n

Illumination is suitable for all ages and will be projected outside Wurdi Baierr Stadium next to the Surf Coast Shire Secondary College, 75 White Street, Torquay on Saturday, May 28.<\/p>\n

Tickets are available every half hour from 7pm with the last showing finishing at 10pm.<\/p>\n
