{"id":70659,"date":"2022-05-27T04:30:12","date_gmt":"2022-05-26T18:30:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=70659"},"modified":"2022-05-27T04:30:12","modified_gmt":"2022-05-26T18:30:12","slug":"ammos-trusting-the-process","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/sport\/ammos-trusting-the-process\/","title":{"rendered":"Ammos trusting the process"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>HEAVILY touted Bellarine Netball League (BNL) favourites Geelong Amateur are on a mission to finish what they started in 2021, but that objective is easier said than done.<\/p>\n<p>After suffering a heartbreaking one-goal loss to fellow premiership contenders Ocean Grove last Saturday, Ammos\u2019 first loss of the season, the spacing at the top of the BNL ladder suggests it isn\u2019t as clear-cut as many might have thought.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, Geelong Amateur head coach Riley Richardson said one thing is for certain, any accomplishments this season will come through a team-first mentality.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis season compared to last season we already had a bit of a launching pad in terms of retaining eight out of our 10 players,\u201d Richardson said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEach week, we go out and we try to play our own style of play without worrying too much about the opposition, we have our gameplan, we have our strategy, and we just go out and try to implement that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With a lot of the campaign still to be played, no one is looking past the powerhouse at Queens Park Reserve.<\/p>\n<p>Richardson has plenty of threats to opposing teams, one at least in each third.<\/p>\n<p>Keisha Guilmartin continues to be brick wall at the non-scoring end headlining the best defence in the league statistically, having allowed just 238 goals through eight games, the fewest in the league.<\/p>\n<p>Ashlea Creasey remains a key weapon for Richardson, wreaking havoc in the centre and transferring that success to Ruby Watson, who keeps the pressure on defenders every time she plays at the scoring end.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m really happy across the board, I really want to stress that, I\u2019m having a nice time,\u201d Richardson said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOut on-court we have girls in informal leadership position who can keep the ship steady during the games, but what I appreciate is that everyone is accountable and able to speak up within the team\u2019s environment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 420px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/05\/RubyWatson_44105.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"420\" height=\"280\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ruby Watson (right) is more than a handful for opposing defenders.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Ammos have no time to dwell on its loss to Ocean Grove as they prepare for a visit to Torquay to face the Tigers, the only undefeated team remaining in the BNL, but Richardson is remaining composed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor us as a team, we are more focused on the process than getting too attached to the results,\u201d Richardson said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we play our style and we get beaten then that\u2019s the way the cookie crumbles, but we\u2019re here to try new things and we\u2019re looking forward to the challenge.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re always building towards September.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 405px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/05\/AshleaCreasey_01740.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"405\" height=\"270\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ashlea Creasey causing chaos in the centre-third.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Geelong Amateur\u2019s contest against Torquay at McCartney Courts kicks off at 1.50pm this Saturday to headline Round 9.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>HEAVILY touted Bellarine Netball League (BNL) favourites Geelong Amateur are on a mission to finish what they started in 2021, but that objective is easier said than done.
