VICTORIANS aged six months and over will be able to get a free flu jab from tomorrow (Wednesday, June 1) as part of a four-week vaccination program during June.<\/p>\n
Health Minister Martin Foley earlier today announced the $33 million program would run from June 1 to June 30, involving more than 3,000 General Practitioners and community pharmacies.<\/p>\n
“This is our first real flu season for two years, and what this free program will do is protect Victorians and their families in the face of what is going to be a challenging winter,” Mr Foley said.<\/p>\n
\u201cVictorians really took up the call to arms when it came to COVID-19 vaccinations, and we know they can do it again, so we\u2019re removing as many barriers as possible to help boost vaccine coverage.<\/p>\n
\u201cHelp your family stay safe this winter by getting vaccinated for both the flu and COVID-19, getting tested if you have any symptoms and staying home while unwell.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr Foley said about six million Victorians would be eligible for the vaccine and authorities were confident enough stock was available.<\/p>\n
The Pharmacy Guild of Australia’s Victoria president, Anthony Tassone, said the program would increase flu vaccine uptake and urged people to take up the offer.<\/p>\n
“We do understand that members of the public may feel tired and fed up with vaccines, but sadly the virus doesn’t care,” Mr Tassone said.<\/p>\n
The Victorian government\u2019s announcement follows Queensland, Western Australia and South Australia\u2019s announcements offering free flu vaccinations.<\/p>\n
The state government is urging anyone with cold and flu symptoms to get tested for COVID-19 prior to getting a flu shot and remain at home until their symptoms have resolved, regardless of whether it turns out to be COVID-19 or flu.<\/p>\n
People who test positive for COVID-19 must isolate for seven days from the date of their result.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
