A TORQUAY family is calling for help to find a local home for their disabled son.<\/p>\n
Tommy Lock, 21, has cerebral palsy and an intellectual disability and lives with his parents full time.<\/p>\n
Tommy\u2019s mother Leigh Greenaway-Lock said Torquay people may have seen Tommy in his wheelchair at Elephant Walk or at the surf beach catching a wave in his beach buggy.<\/p>\n
Unfortunately, due to his parents\u2019 health concerns at the moment, Tommy needs to find alternative accommodation, but the only housing available for him after a two-year wait is in Geelong \u2013 at least a 20-minute car ride away.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is such a shame that with all the new housing estates that are opening up in Torquay none of them have earmarked a block of land for local disabled residents\u201d, Mrs Greenaway-Lock said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI know of many local families that would greatly benefit from a house in Torquay; having their loved ones close by just makes sense.\u201d<\/p>\n
She said it was a huge step for families in her situation to make such a decision, as many children were extremely vulnerable.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have land set aside for childcare, aged care, football ovals and parks, and it would just be inclusive of everyone if this could happen in our community.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
