{"id":70916,"date":"2022-06-07T04:00:36","date_gmt":"2022-06-06T18:00:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=70916"},"modified":"2022-06-07T09:57:17","modified_gmt":"2022-06-06T23:57:17","slug":"stadium-illuminated-with-art","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/stadium-illuminated-with-art\/","title":{"rendered":"Stadium illuminated with art"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A VIBRANT exploration of colour lit up Torquay North on Saturday night as crowds took a look at<em> Illumination<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Supported by the Surf Coast Shire\u2019s COVID Recovery Grants, the project explores the transformative nature of life, the land and constellations beyond, honouring the First Nations People and their ancient culture\u2019s storytelling medium of paint.<\/p>\n<p>Co-ordinated by Rebecca Hosking alongside Surf Coast artists Robert Kain, Kathryn Junor and Gwyn Wise,<em> Illumination<\/em> saw the moving paint landscapes projected at a large scale onto the northern exterior wall at the Wurdi Baierr Stadium accompanied by a soundscape.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was brilliant, I thought it was excellent,\u201d Wise said.<\/p>\n<p>She explained that the three painters created their contributions individually on their works before Hosking did the photography.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/06\/Illumination7_22407.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"384\" height=\"512\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/06\/Illumination2_60510.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"660\" height=\"440\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe put the paint on then blew on it \u2013 I used a hair dryer, or you could use a thick straw to blow it along. You\u2019d put it on an angle, and it\u2019d run, and you got all these brilliant effects.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t use lots of colours because I found if you used too many colours, you ended up with black or brown, so I just kept my colours bright, and that\u2019s what came up.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was quite pleased with how it all turned out.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI thought it was brilliant. I can visualise it could be a good backdrop with the silhouette of dancers. It could be used for lots of other things, as a backdrop for other events.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd the wall was perfect \u2013 there\u2019s not too many nice walls without no windows in them to display the works on.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe lawn out the front was perfect for lookers, though we could have had a few more lookers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/06\/Illumination5_38440.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"627\" height=\"418\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Wise said it was quite difficult to distinguish between the artists\u2019 works when they were projected.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was hard to tell when it was up on the stadium \u2013 each one of us was saying \u2018that\u2019s yours, I think\u2019; we weren\u2019t 100 per cent sure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A VIBRANT exploration of colour lit up Torquay North on Saturday night as crowds took a look at Illumination.
