PEOPLE with a disability have taken the first steps towards pursuing work or volunteering through a one-day workshop facilitated by genU Inclusion.<\/p>\n
During the \u201cJourney to Work\u201d day on Thursday, participants received advice on clothing, hairstyling and make-up while also hearing from a motivational speaker about \u201cbeing the best you that you can be\u201d.<\/p>\n
Staff from The Centre of Excellence hairdressing and beauty college in Geelong were on hand to lend their skills, while a team of GMHBA volunteers mentored, offered presentation advice and support alongside participants on the day.<\/p>\n
While the day will touch on the practical with presentation tips and assistance, the underpinning motivation is about participants feeling good about themselves and feeling supported.<\/p>\n
The aim is to have participants leave the event feeling motivated and enthusiastic about their futures, having received a confidence boost to move forward in their chosen fields of work or volunteering.<\/p>\n
GMHBA community manager Amy Gillett said Journey to Work was an exciting and rewarding experience for the volunteers as well.<\/p>\n
