{"id":71024,"date":"2022-06-02T04:45:55","date_gmt":"2022-06-01T18:45:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=71024"},"modified":"2022-06-01T12:59:55","modified_gmt":"2022-06-01T02:59:55","slug":"all-abilities-auskick-breaks-new-ground-in-moolap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/sport\/all-abilities-auskick-breaks-new-ground-in-moolap\/","title":{"rendered":"All-Abilities Auskick breaks new ground in Moolap"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A NEW and inclusive footy program at the Newcomb Power is off and running in Geelong\u2019s east.<\/p>\n<p>The Power are halfway through a game changing All-Abilities Auskick Program entering the fourth of six Wednesday sessions, catering to more than 30 kids with special needs giving the game of Aussie Rules a go.<\/p>\n<p>Junior football coordinator Scott Smith said the club\u2019s All-Abilities Auskick Program is just one of the many programs finally becoming a reality at Grinter Reserve.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve got participants from Jan Juc, Torquay and Armstrong Creek coming down for the program, it is clearly a type of program that is needed all over the Geelong region and beyond,\u201d Smith said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe here at Newcomb, alongside Lara, are the only football clubs that offer a comprehensive program like this.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce we figure out what works and what doesn\u2019t in a program like this, we\u2019ll be heading to AFL Victoria with our findings and then start to push it out to more mainstream clubs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 504px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/06\/IMG_2682_31896.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"504\" height=\"336\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ollie loading up a big handball.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Several Football Integration Development Association (FIDA) coaches have also been enlisted by Newcomb to provide extra assistance and promote inclusion utilising their qualifications.<\/p>\n<p>Sensory balls, shorter activity times and active engagement between coaches and participants are some of the noticeable differences between the All-Abilities program and a mainstream Auskick program.<\/p>\n<p>Newcomb has quickly become one of the region\u2019s most successful junior programs participation-wise with more than 350 registrations across football and netball.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 572px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/06\/IMG_2692_02736.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"572\" height=\"381\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Patrick with the good kicking form.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Coupled with a number of new developments at its Moolap-based ground, namely new lights and a pavilion extension, Smith is excited to see the club growing after a disjointed and frustrating two years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s fantastic for the club,\u201d Smith said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re very inclusive. Inclusion is one thing that we really pride ourselves on, it doesn\u2019t matter what your ability or background is. To our locals, come down to Newcomb.
