{"id":71320,"date":"2022-06-11T04:15:51","date_gmt":"2022-06-10T18:15:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=71320"},"modified":"2022-06-08T12:16:00","modified_gmt":"2022-06-08T02:16:00","slug":"torquay-hosts-the-biggest-morning-tea","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/torquay-hosts-the-biggest-morning-tea\/","title":{"rendered":"Torquay hosts the Biggest Morning Tea"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE VMCH Star Of The Sea Retirement Village in Torquay hosted a very special tea party earlier this week, raising vital funds for those affected by cancer.<\/p>\n<p>The village in Torquay took part in the Cancer Council\u2019s Australia\u2019s Biggest Morning Tea event on Monday morning, hosting an auction and morning tea for their residents and friends with all proceeds going towards the cause.<\/p>\n<p>Close to 100 people packed in the community centre for the morning tea with plenty of cakes, coffee and tea to go around for everyone to have a sip and mingle.<\/p>\n<p>Event organisers Val Cooper and Ronnie Maguire, who both lost their husbands to the disease, were thrilled with the amount of support the cause had been given by all attendees with over 30 businesses jumping on board and donating to the auction.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_71321\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-71321\" style=\"width: 823px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-71321 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/06\/IMG_2899_46498.jpg?_t=1654572687\" alt=\"\" width=\"823\" height=\"549\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-71321\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Monday&#8217;s event was the second year in a row that the village had support the Cancer Council fundraiser. Photo: NATHAN RIVALLAND<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe show of support has been given amazing from our local community and businesses,\u201d Val said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were thrilled by the generosity of our 30-plus businesses that we visited to get donations, we can\u2019t thank the businesses and the other personal and private donors enough for their contribution.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLast year we raised $2800 to go towards cancer research and we hope that today\u2019s event will go beyond that figure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ronnie said the cause was one of many fundraisers that the village committed to supporting each year and they hope to do more for the community as times goes on.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe love helping the community and our residents with free meals, and plenty of activities,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis event is a great way of getting everyone together and supporting cancer research.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_71327\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-71327\" style=\"width: 699px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-71327 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/06\/IMG_2885_52161.jpg?_t=1654572731\" alt=\"\" width=\"699\" height=\"466\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-71327\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Residents and their friends enjoyed cakes, biscuits and tea to mark the Australia&#8217;s Biggest Morning Tea event.
