{"id":72153,"date":"2022-06-25T04:30:17","date_gmt":"2022-06-24T18:30:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=72153"},"modified":"2022-06-22T15:22:49","modified_gmt":"2022-06-22T05:22:49","slug":"hospital-op-shop-rises-from-the-ashes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/hospital-op-shop-rises-from-the-ashes\/","title":{"rendered":"Hospital op shop rises from the ashes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WINCHELSEA Hospital&#8217;s fundraising op shop has celebrated its reopening at a new location almost two years after its original site burned down.<\/p>\n<p>Local stakeholders opened a new store at 10 Willis Street, known locally as &#8220;The Sheds&#8221;, as it continues planning for a permanent new home.<\/p>\n<p>Hesse Rural Health board chair Ian Whiting and the hospital&#8217;s Ladies Auxiliary president Cheryl Mawson cut the ribbon in front of a crowd of dozens of local stakeholders, which included other auxillary committee members, hospital staff, volunteer organisations, Surf Coast Shire councillor Heather Wellington and residents.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The opening day was a hugely successful, with a steady stream of customers over the long weekend,&#8221; a spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This day would not have been possible without the huge array of donations and support from our local community and volunteers, whom we are extremely grateful to.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The op shop raises money for the Winchelsea hospital, with volunteers contributing tens of thousands of dollars for the health service since its opening.<\/p>\n<p>Shop volunteers and the broader Winchelsea community were devastated when an early-morning fire destroyed the original Gosney Street building in November 2020.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_72158\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-72158\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-72158\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/06\/Untitled-design-5-3-300x190.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/06\/Untitled-design-5-3-300x190.png 300w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/06\/Untitled-design-5-3-1024x649.png 1024w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/06\/Untitled-design-5-3-600x380.png 600w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/06\/Untitled-design-5-3-768x486.png 768w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/06\/Untitled-design-5-3.png 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-72158\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The op shop raises money for the Winchelsea hospital. Photo: SUPPLIED.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The hospital and the auxillary committee remains committed to establishing a permanent new op shop at Winchelsea&#8217;s former Orchard bakery (44-46 Main Street), but requires additional fundraising dollars and planning approval from the shire due to heritage overlays.<\/p>\n<p>A rebuild appeal for the op shop has already attracted support from the hospital, Winchelsea Community Bank and local businesses.<\/p>\n<p>Hesse Rural Health hosted its A Century of Brides exhibit during the June long weekend as its most recent contribution to the appeal, raising $3,500 from donations which the community bank will match.<\/p>\n<p>The new op shop will be open from 10am-3pm from Friday to Monday each week, and accepts donations between 10am-2pm Mondays and Saturdays.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WINCHELSEA Hospital&#8217;s fundraising op shop has celebrated its reopening at a new location almost two years after its original site burned down.
