{"id":72213,"date":"2022-06-24T04:30:01","date_gmt":"2022-06-23T18:30:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=72213"},"modified":"2022-06-24T04:30:01","modified_gmt":"2022-06-23T18:30:01","slug":"four-new-faces-to-don-blue-and-white-in-season-7","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/sport\/four-new-faces-to-don-blue-and-white-in-season-7\/","title":{"rendered":"Four new faces to don blue and white in Season 7"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THERE will be four new faces calling GMHBA Stadium home for the AFLW\u2019s seventh season following a busy trade period down at Kardinia Park.<\/p>\n<p>West Coast\u2019s Mikayla Bowen, Richmond\u2019s Ingrid Houtsma, and Melbourne\u2019s Jacqueline Parry and Shelley Scott will join the Cattery for the 2023 premiership season, set to start on August 25.<\/p>\n<p>Houtsma, the first of the Cats\u2019 four acquisitions during the sign and trade period, is a former Geelong Falcons prospect and has yet to make her AFLW debut.<\/p>\n<p>The Cats will look to rectify that following impressive showings for Richmond\u2019s VFLW affiliate in Port Melbourne, averaging three tackles and 10 disposals a game in her four outings earlier this year. \u201cWe\u2019re thrilled to welcome Ingrid to the club and look forward to watching her continue to grow and develop as a footballer at the Cats,\u201d Geelong Cats head of AFLW and pathways Brett Johnson said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIngrid\u2019s talent will complement our list, and we see her as a versatile, long-term prospect for our club.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 455px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/06\/IngridHoutsma3_85387.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"455\" height=\"303\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ingrid Houtsma.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A 21-year-old midfielder signing from the Eagles, Bowen averaged 13 disposals and five tackles a game last season and made history as West Coast\u2019s inaugural AFLW signing.<\/p>\n<p>She will now look to help make history in Geelong, bringing Rising Star Award nominee calibre of talent to the club.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 389px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/06\/MikaylaBowen2_58719.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"389\" height=\"259\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mikayla Bowen.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Cats have also bolstered their squad with a pair of Melbourne signings, managing to net AFLW veteran Shelly Scott and tall forward Jacqueline Parry.<\/p>\n<p>Parry, 25, has 22 AFLW games under her belt and will present a sizeable threat to Geelong\u2019s opponents this season.<\/p>\n<p>The athletic key forward\u2019s quickness and prowess in the air will be used heavily by head coach Dan Lowther moving forward.<\/p>\n<p>Scott remains one of the stalwarts of the AFLW, approaching the 50-game milestone after six seasons with the Demons.<\/p>\n<p>But the Colac-raised talent, former Melbourne best and fairest, and former Melbourne co-captain will clear that achievement a little closer to home.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 437px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/06\/ShelleyScott2_24234.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"437\" height=\"291\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Shelley Scott.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The pairing of Parry and Scott came at the cost of long-serving Cats star Jordan Ivey and pick 51 of the nearing draft, but the club was quick to recognise Ivey\u2019s contribution to the club\u2019s program starting in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJordan has been a wonderful player since the inception of our women\u2019s program in 2017 and has made a significant contribution on &amp;
