{"id":72860,"date":"2022-07-01T04:30:54","date_gmt":"2022-06-30T18:30:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=72860"},"modified":"2022-07-01T11:23:27","modified_gmt":"2022-07-01T01:23:27","slug":"womens-roos-hop-to-the-top","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/sport\/womens-roos-hop-to-the-top\/","title":{"rendered":"Women&#8217;s Roos hop to the top"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Anglesea Kangaroos women\u2019s football side are hopping towards another finals berth as they sit atop of the divisional ladder as the pointy end of the season approaches.<\/p>\n<p>With eight rounds in the books and only three games remaining before finals, Anglesea sit at the top of the pecking order with their nearest challengers South Barwon and Lara trailing two games behind in the third division of the AFL Barwon FNL Epworth Cup.<\/p>\n<p>Anglesea women\u2019s senior coach Luke Cini credits his sides strong form thus far as being on the back of strong player retention and word of mouth in the offseason.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_72865\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-72865\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-72865\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/06\/IMG-7975_73046.jpg?_t=1656373509\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"391\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-72865\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Anglesea Women&#8217;s football side is undefeated thus far in 2022. Photo: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve had a great start to the season, and we are stoked with where we sit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOver the offseason we were rapt to keep most of our core group of players and then recruit a couple more who were friends of friends or players housemates who wanted to have a crack.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think we poached six players from the one household!<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think in large; the ladies are really driving the success so far this season with strong numbers at training and plenty of enthusiasm.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, I\u2019ve been telling the girls, it\u2019s all good and well to be undefeated and winning, but we have to keep improving as we approach the finals to give it a real good shake,\u201d Cini said.<\/p>\n<p>Cini said while the team was undefeated, the ladder was closer than just wins and losses would indicate, with other sides nipping at their heels.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe division we are in is super competitive and plenty of games have been decided by less than a few goals which keeps it very interesting.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_72861\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-72861\" style=\"width: 559px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-72861\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/06\/IMG-7973_32259.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"559\" height=\"678\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-72861\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Anglesea in action against St Albans this year. Photos: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve got some tough games coming in the next weeks and need to stay on top of our game to continue to stay at the top of the ladder.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While tough games are ahead for the Roos, the coaching panel and club are confident that if the team continue their run of form, anything is possible.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur players are motivated to have success and as a coaching panel we have loved the ladies will to want to learn and to get better as a group,\u201d Cini said. \u201cWe want the ladies to continue pushing for women\u2019s rights in football and being trailblazers and champions of the game.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOf course, we also want them to just continue to have fun.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE Anglesea Kangaroos women\u2019s football side are hopping towards another finals berth as they sit atop of the divisional ladder as the pointy end of the season approaches.
