{"id":73369,"date":"2022-07-07T04:00:30","date_gmt":"2022-07-06T18:00:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=73369"},"modified":"2022-07-05T11:46:44","modified_gmt":"2022-07-05T01:46:44","slug":"anglesea-family-returning-for-10th-arts-trail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/living\/anglesea-family-returning-for-10th-arts-trail\/","title":{"rendered":"Anglesea family returning for 10th Arts Trail"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE 10th anniversary of the Surf Coast Arts Trail is fast approaching, and a familiar family is again preparing to shine in the annual event.<\/p>\n<p>Anglesea\u2019s Solly-Giles family is opening their studio doors as they join more than 200 artists from the coast to the hinterland showcasing their art from home studios and public galleries.<\/p>\n<p>Printmaker Jill Giles and woodworker husband Geoff have joined ceramic artist daughter Melinda Solly and her husband Matthew in showing off the family\u2019s studio and divulging their creative processes.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_73370\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-73370\" style=\"width: 790px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-73370 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/07\/ArtsTrail-Geoff_81657.jpg?_t=1656984178\" alt=\"\" width=\"790\" height=\"1186\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-73370\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Woodworker Geoff Giles.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cIt is lovely, and we have fun setting it all up and making it look nice, and all of the rest of the family come along and feed us and look after us,\u201d Ms Giles said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve been in it from the start and it\u2019s a very enjoyable weekend.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s lovely talking to people who visit about your work and how you do it, and for me explaining the different ways of printmaking. It\u2019s a great family involvement too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Arts Trail, slated for August 6-7, is back to its tradition timeslot following a disappointing and abrupt eleventh-hour cancellation in 2021 due to the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>Expected mediums on the Arts Trail will range from Ms Giles\u2019 collagraph prints and Ms Solly\u2019s fine ceramics to jewellery, painting, sculpture and glasswork.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_73372\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-73372\" style=\"width: 812px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-73372 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/07\/ArtsTrail-Melind_86730.jpg?_t=1656984253\" alt=\"\" width=\"812\" height=\"1217\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-73372\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ceramic artist Melinda Solly.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA lot of artists work by themselves, so to have people come around and see what you are doing and appreciate your work is a real buzz,\u201d Ms Giles said.<\/p>\n<p>Surf Coast Shire councillor Mike Bodsworth said participants like the Solly-Giles family are a major reason for the Arts Trail\u2019s success and why visitors keep coming to the region.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_73376\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-73376\" style=\"width: 614px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-73376 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/07\/ArtsTrail-Matthe_79585.jpg?_t=1656984280\" alt=\"\" width=\"614\" height=\"920\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-73376\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Printmaker Matthew Solly at work.
