	{"id":73771,"date":"2022-07-14T04:15:16","date_gmt":"2022-07-13T18:15:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=73771"},"modified":"2022-07-14T13:42:45","modified_gmt":"2022-07-14T03:42:45","slug":"dogs-to-make-catwalk-comeback","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/dogs-to-make-catwalk-comeback\/","title":{"rendered":"Dogs to make catwalk comeback"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE carpark of Torquay\u2019s favourite dog walking caf\u00e9 is set to become a runway this Sunday, July 17, so the Surf Coast\u2019s best-dressed pooches can strut their stuff.<\/p>\n<p>The Salty Dog Caf\u00e9, situated in front of Fishermans Beach in The Esplanade, will host its third annual Pooch Parade following two years of cancellations due to COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a good, fun day out,\u201d caf\u00e9 owner James Zocchi said. \u201cWe will be using the day as a way of giving back with all entry fees proceeds going to the Geelong Animal Welfare Society (GAWS), there will also be some donation boxes, and whatever is raised on the day we\u2019ll match ourselves.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re expecting close to 50 dogs, 10-12 in each size category from small through to extra-large, with a bunch of other random prizes too such as best owner\/dog combo, best trick and some other ones, too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 371px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/07\/PoochParade3_27236.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"371\" height=\"495\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">George and Belle arrived as quite the couple at the last Pooch Parade in 2019.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>An MC will be on hand to run proceedings, a panel of judges will decide prize winners, and a dog washer will be on deck to give any pooch in attendance a good clean.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Zocchi said the parade had proven popular in recent years almost to the point of being \u201cout of control\u201d. He reassured possible attendees that it was a great way to spend some time during the weekend on Torquay\u2019s main strip, even if you were not a dog owner.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe encourage people who do not have dogs to come down, it\u2019s a bit of fun for the community and it\u2019s all for a good cause,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe anticipation for this year\u2019s parade is quite high given we actually cancelled last year\u2019s event just two weeks before it was scheduled to take place.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat was really disappointing, we had all the prizes lined up, all the sponsors ready to go, so I think this year\u2019s event will be pretty big.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 498px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/07\/PoochParade1_76806.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"498\" height=\"374\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">This year&#8217;s event follows the previous two being cancelled due to COVID-19.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Registrations can be done in-person at the caf\u00e9 or via email at hello@thesaltydogcafetorquay.com.au, but spaces are limited.<\/p>\n<p>The parade is expected to begin at 2pm.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE carpark of Torquay\u2019s favourite dog walking caf\u00e9 is set to become a runway this Sunday, July 17, so the Surf Coast\u2019s best-dressed pooches can strut their stuff.
