SURF COAST LONGBOARDERS Club\u2019s 2022 Winter Classic and Auction Night will bring the local surfing community together while raising money for a local volunteer organisation.<\/p>\n

The club will host the winter surfing event at Torquay Point on July 30 and July 31, followed by a charity auction night, with all proceeds going towards Torquay Marine Rescue, assisting them to continue being a professional rescue service for our region.<\/p>\n

Surf Coast Longboarders Club President Penny Andrews said she is rapt to bring the Victorian surfing fraternity together once again for the prestigious longboarding event and charity fundraiser.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are excited to have the event back in 2022 and hope that we can make a big difference in supporting the Torquay Marine Rescue in funding their rescue efforts across our region.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor people to go out and risk their lives for others in the community like Torquay Marine Rescue do, it takes a lot of courage, and we are thrilled to have them as the beneficiary of the event.\u201d<\/p>\n

Torquay Marine Rescue Captain Adam Stevens was elated that the marine service would be backed by the annual surfing event.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are so humbled to be the beneficiary of this year\u2019s winter classic surfing event,\u201d Stevens said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe funds generated will certainly go a long way in assisting us with buying equipment that is going to allow us to continue keeping our community safe in the ocean.\u201d<\/p>\n

In years gone by, the event has raised more than $8,000 for families and other community groups around the area.<\/p>\n

The Trevor Barker Foundation, Torquay CFA, Torquay SES, Torquay Food Aid, and families battling illness or tragedy have been past recipients of the fundraising event in the last ten years.<\/p>\n

\u201cEach year we\u2019ve picked different organisations or families in our community who are in need of a helping hand to better their situation,\u201d Andrews said.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur club feels a deep connection to our community and want to help where we can to impact others in a positive manner.\u201d<\/p>\n

The committee are in the midst of sourcing sponsors for the event and extend that offer to any organisations in the community who want to support the cause.<\/p>\n

The Winter Classic event will be held at Torquay Point on Saturday July 30, followed by the charity auction that evening at 4pm at the Torquay Surf Lifesaving Club.<\/p>\n

Finals day on July 31 will then be at Surf Coast Longboarders Club\u2019s spiritual home at Point Impossible.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo still be running the event after fifteen years is a huge credit to the local surf community and we can\u2019t wait for another cracking event and fundraiser in just over a week\u2019s time,\u201d Andrews said.<\/p>\n
