{"id":74321,"date":"2022-07-23T04:00:17","date_gmt":"2022-07-22T18:00:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=74321"},"modified":"2022-07-20T11:49:48","modified_gmt":"2022-07-20T01:49:48","slug":"torquay-slsc-hosts-legendary-afternoon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/torquay-slsc-hosts-legendary-afternoon\/","title":{"rendered":"Torquay SLSC hosts legendary afternoon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ABOUT 100 Torquay lifesavers from the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s returned to their old stomping ground Saturday to reconnect at a Legends Afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>Torquay Surf Life Saving Club member and organiser Peter Milburn said boaties, skiers and paddlers alike made the trip from all over the country for the chance to catch up with fellow members and old teammates.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere were so many stories told on the day, but the central theme of all those stories was the great love everybody had of Torquay and the camaraderie of the surf club,\u201d Mr Milburn said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was an amazing feeling in the room, and everybody contributed little bits here and there, but it always came back to that notion of community here on the Surf Coast.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 551px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/07\/JeffWattandJohn_43861.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"551\" height=\"368\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jeff Watt and newly inducted life member John Mercer.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Legends travelled from Western Australia, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, and New South Wales to be a part of the event, which was organised by Mr Milburn and fellow members Chris Harris and Steve Taylor.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 548px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/07\/IMG_2567Boardand_26200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"548\" height=\"366\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Former Torquay SLSC board and ski paddlers.
