{"id":74649,"date":"2022-07-28T04:15:43","date_gmt":"2022-07-27T18:15:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=74649"},"modified":"2022-07-28T15:50:19","modified_gmt":"2022-07-28T05:50:19","slug":"roos-victorious-in-pride-cup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/sport\/roos-victorious-in-pride-cup\/","title":{"rendered":"Roos victorious in Pride Cup"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE ANGLESEA women\u2019s football team continued their winning ways on the weekend with a 13-point victory over North Geelong in the annual Pride Cup match.<\/p>\n<p>The second consecutive Pride Cup was held on Sunday at Ellimatta Reserve, with both sides coming together to evolve sporting culture to make LGBTI+ people feel safe, welcome, and accepted on and off the sporting field.<\/p>\n<p>Before the bounce of the ball, plenty of unity and compassion was shown by the home team and the visitors as they posed for pictures with the cup and ran through a joint rainbow banner together to signify the pride occasion.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_74652\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-74652\" style=\"width: 752px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-74652 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/07\/061A2654A_35194.jpg?_t=1658797382\" alt=\"\" width=\"752\" height=\"501\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-74652\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Plenty of laughs were had as the women ran through the joint banner.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The club\u2019s new pride jumpers as designed by Anglesea player Rachel Joseph were also on show during Sunday\u2019s fixture, while umpires and North Geelong players and officials donned rainbow socks to signify the event.<\/p>\n<p>After quarter-time during the match, the Roos managed to keep their opponent\u2019s goalless until the fourth quarter, setting themselves up for an outstanding 13-point win, scoring 4.9.33 to North Geelong\u2019s 3.2.20.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_74650\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-74650\" style=\"width: 889px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-74650 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/07\/061A3079A_87398.jpg?_t=1658797407\" alt=\"\" width=\"889\" height=\"592\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-74650\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Anglesea got their kicking boots on, taking home an outstanding 13 point win to stay on top of the ladder.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Anglesea women\u2019s team manager Jenn Lingam was rapt with how the day\u2019s proceedings, referring to how the occasion was very important in promoting acceptance around the LGBTI+ community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSunday was such a fantastic show of support and unity by both clubs and we are were absolutely thrilled with the response,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was a big crowd at the game and plenty of people cheering and enjoying themselves which we always love to see.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA massive thanks to North Geelong and their women\u2019s side for being apart of the Pride Cup this year, and we can\u2019t wait to hopefully keep it going for years to come.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Anglesea women\u2019s coach Luke Cini also signified the importance of the Pride Cup fixture and said he was pleased with the team\u2019s endeavour and spirit during the day.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe girls had an absolute ball playing on the weekend and really flew the flag for the LGBTI+ community with the jumpers and the pride theme,\u201d Cini said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBoth sides really embraced the day and got behind the concept which was great to see.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are rapt with the win and now turn our attention to finals where we can hopefully take home the big prize in a couple of weeks.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_74654\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-74654\" style=\"width: 861px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-74654\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/07\/2H3A7250_73847.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"861\" height=\"574\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-74654\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Team captains Cecilia Sammut (Anglesea) and Amy Scheitner (North Geelong) hold the Pride Cup before the bounce.
