	{"id":74706,"date":"2022-07-28T04:00:23","date_gmt":"2022-07-27T18:00:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=74706"},"modified":"2022-07-28T07:23:33","modified_gmt":"2022-07-27T21:23:33","slug":"police-to-host-community-forum-in-torquay","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/police-to-host-community-forum-in-torquay\/","title":{"rendered":"Police to host community forum in Torquay"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Torquay community is being invited to meet their local police officers at a free event next week.<\/p>\n<p>Victoria Police is hosting the Torquay Community Forum as an open platform for them to discuss policing, local crime trends and answer questions from the public.<\/p>\n<p>Everyone is invited to attend and hear from police about what\u2019s going on in Torquay.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s basically just a very informal day for the community to come down catch up with local police members,\u201d Sergeant Tony Groves from Torquay police said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf they\u2019ve got any questions or any concerns, they can raise them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sgt Groves said the new Mobile Police Station for the Western Region \u2013 one of only three such stations in the state \u2013 would also be at the forum.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_74707\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-74707\" style=\"width: 801px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-74707 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/07\/IMG_7148_09072.jpg?_t=1658804623\" alt=\"\" width=\"801\" height=\"534\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-74707\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Victoria Police is hosting the Torquay Community Forum as an open platform for them to discuss policing, local crime trends and answer questions from the public. Photo: JAMES TAYLOR<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ll bring it down and set it up so people can come there and have a look through it; it\u2019s all brand new technology.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s used for missing persons out in the bush and things like that.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a bit like the campervan-style setup but it can link into the cameras around Geelong, the City of Greater Geelong cameras, we can get the Air Wing footage on it \u2013 so we use it for all the major things.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019ll be used for events, It\u2019ll be used for emergencies if facilities at a police station stopped working for some reason.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He is hoping for big numbers on the day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the past, I\u2019ve done quite a few of them in Geelong, but it just really depends. Sometimes you get half a dozen people, sometimes you get 20 people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sgt Groves said the intention was to run the forums every two or three months.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ll just try to run them consistently from now on, to give people a chance to pop down.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt might be something that people have always wondered about but wouldn\u2019t necessarily bother a police station over it but if they just wanted some some advice, they can pop down; or just come down and meet their local members.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Victoria Police Torquay Community Forum will be held at Doc Hughes, 23 The Esplanade, Torquay, on August 4 from noon-1pm.<\/p>\n<p>Entry is free, no RSVPs required.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE Torquay community is being invited to meet their local police officers at a free event next week.
