WORK has started on a host of pedestrian and traffic safety projects for Torquay town centre.<\/p>\n
The Surf Coast Shire is continuing road upgrades at the shopping precinct which it says will make it easier for people to access, walk and cycle around the area.<\/p>\n
The shire will construct a raised intersection at the intersection of Anderson and Payne streets and a “mini roundabout” at Pearl Street \u2013 at the corner of the Torquay post office.<\/p>\n
It will also install speed humps at Boston Road and Anderson Street near the Surf Coast Highway, and new pedestrian crossings at Bristol and Boston roads.<\/p>\n
Works will be staged between now and the end of this year \u2013 starting with pedestrian crossings and finishing with the roundabout project.<\/p>\n
The new projects build on recently completed pedestrian crossings at Zeally Bay Road, Gilbert Street, Pearl Street and Walker Street, near the Woolworths precinct.<\/p>\n
The shire stated residents should expect minor traffic impacts during construction.<\/p>\n
“There will be some impacts during the works, however we will do all we can to minimise disruption.<\/p>\n
“We will communicate these impacts with directly affected residents and businesses closer to the implementation of the works.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
