The Surf Coast community is invited to attend the Aireys Inlet Community Hall on Tuesday, February 13 to be part of this year\u2019s UnitingCare Pancake Day appeal.<\/strong><\/p>\n

All the money raised from the sale of pancakes will go to support the work of UnitingCare Geelong; UnitingCare is the community services organisation of the Uniting Church.<\/p>\n

Local Uniting Church Pancake Day co-coordinator Mary Bremner said the event had been running annually for many years in Aireys Inlet.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a great way for us to get together, have something good to eat and help others at the same time,\u201d Mary said.<\/p>\n

Funds raised will be used in the local community, where Uniting is delivering programs and services.<\/p>\n

These range from emergency relief for families facing food crises, supporting the homeless move into permanent accommodation, to finding work for people with disabilities and supporting an older person living independently in their own home.<\/p>\n

February 13 marks Pancake Day, or Shrove Tuesday, this year. It\u2019s an important date in the Christian calendar, marking the last day before the start of Lent, a period of fasting and prayer in the run-up to Easter.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a day when people can get together to mark the tradition of making pancakes while also raising much-needed funds for their local communities.<\/p>\n

The Pancake Day Appeal has raised nearly $1.8 million for communities across Victoria and Tasmania over its 17 years of operation.<\/p>\n

Aireys Inlet Community Hall is located at 6 Great Ocean Road, Aireys Inlet. Pancakes will be flipped from 11am-4pm.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
