{"id":75390,"date":"2022-08-03T11:30:13","date_gmt":"2022-08-03T01:30:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/grovedale-winger-takes-best-and-fairest\/"},"modified":"2022-08-03T11:56:36","modified_gmt":"2022-08-03T01:56:36","slug":"grovedale-winger-takes-best-and-fairest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/sport\/grovedale-winger-takes-best-and-fairest\/","title":{"rendered":"Grovedale winger takes best and fairest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">GROVEDALE&#8217;S Alana Tully has stormed home at last night\u2019s senior women\u2019s football awards night to claim female football\u2019s top individual honour in the region.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tully secured 20 votes during Tuesday\u2019s vote count to edge out Danielle Gaylard (Geelong Amateur) and Tahley Houghton (St Mary\u2019s) for the Division 1 best and fairest award, who both finished the night with 15 votes apiece.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sisters Lucy and Cheryl De Groot (Geelong Amateur) polled 13 and 12 votes respectively to complete the top five.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Drysdale\u2019s Tara Smith convincingly earned the league best and fairest award for Division 2, amassing a nine-vote win over fellow Hawk Caitlin Picket and Torquay Tiger Emogen Johnson.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_56625\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-56625\" style=\"width: 405px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-56625\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/08\/061A6421-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"405\" height=\"270\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-56625\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Drysdale&#8217;s Tara Smith secure Division 2&#8217;s Best and Fairest award.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A three-way tie between Belle-Murphy-Bowen (Newtown &amp; Chilwell), Jerusha Devarakonda (St Joseph\u2019s) and Liesl Foote (Drysdale) decided fourth place in the standings.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hardware also found its way to South Barwon with Maggie Caudullo acquiring the top-gong in Division 3.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cauduillo collected 18 votes ahead of Faith Qoon (North Geelong) on 16 votes and Phoebe Lingam\u2019s 15 votes (Anglesea).<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Barwon Heads\u2019 Grace Synnott was named AFL Barwon Women\u2019s Rookie of the Year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Geelong Amateur\u2019s Tom Cashin was selected as the coach of the AFL Barwon Women\u2019s Team of the Year following his stellar season at the Wammos&#8217; helm.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_56627\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-56627\" style=\"width: 275px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-56627\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/08\/061A6658-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"275\" height=\"413\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-56627\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Geelong Amateur women&#8217;s coach Tom Cashin earned the coaching slot in this season&#8217;s Team of the Year.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bianca Clever (St Mary\u2019s), Emily Koroneos (St Mary\u2019s), Brooke Wells (Newtown &amp; Chilwell), Kelsey Houghton (St Mary\u2019s), Cheryl De Groot (Geelong Amateur) and Sally Riley (Geelong Amateur) made up the side\u2019s backline.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Up front was Laura Taylor (Newtown &amp; Chilwell), Jamilla Cranny (Geelong West Giants), Kate Duff (Barwon Heads), Tahley Houghton (St Mary\u2019s), Bec Goring (Newtown &amp; Chilwell) and Emily Worpel (Grovedale).<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the midfield, Sophie O\u2019Dea (Geelong West) was placed in the centre<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with Alana Tully (Grovedale) and Bella Hill (Grovedale) on either wing, while Danielle Gaylard (Geelong Amateur), Cassie Blakeway (Newtown &amp; Chilwell) and Lucy De Groot (Geelong Amateur) were named followers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Roseanna Cox (St Mary\u2019s), Melanie McNamara (Geelong Amateur), Prue Harvey (Barwon Heads) and Taylah Hassett (Grovedale) made selection to the interchange.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>GROVEDALE&#8217;S Alana Tully has stormed home at last night\u2019s senior women\u2019s football awards night to claim female football\u2019s top individual honour in the region.
