SURF Coast Shire Council will soon begin a new service to install dog bag dispensers at some of the region’s top dog destinations.<\/p>\n
A 12-month trial will install free dog poop bag points at council-managed park and recreation reserves, including at Torquay, Jan Juc, Bellbrae, Anglesea, Moriac, Mount Moriac, Lorne and Winchelsea.<\/p>\n
Councillor Adrian Schonfelder said the dispensers would provide more options for owners to clean up after their pets.<\/p>\n
“We love seeing sporting clubs and individuals including dog owners making such good use of our sporting ovals and recreation reserves across the shire,” Cr Schonfelder said.<\/p>\n
“But we consistently hear complaints about dog waste at these spaces.<\/p>\n
“Cleaning up after dogs and disposing of waste properly in bins is part of being a responsible pet owner using these reserves.<\/p>\n
“By providing dog waste bag dispensers and bags at these locations we hope to ensure that all users can have pleasant and safe experiences sharing facilities.”<\/p>\n
It’s the first time the council has provided the public dispensers. Existing facilities at coastal reserves are provided by Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority.<\/p>\n
Pet owners are still required to carry pick-up bags under the shire’s local laws and could face fines for failing to do or pick up after their dogs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
